A few weeks ago, we were asked if we could attend a meeting in Europe with a company that had recently installed commentary systems on double decker buses. Before we arrived, I was told they were happy with their commentary systems but they wanted to learn more about their options for future expansion.
I happily accepted their invitation.
When I arrived at the meeting, I listened to a very different story. The Managing Director said "We've had nothing but problems" followed by "how can you help us fix them?"
During our meeting, I learned that their systems were breaking down daily. Even worse, the company had spent more than $50,000 Euros trying to fix these problems! And they were getting little support from their manufacturer.
Hearing this story was disheartening. And I thought to myself, how can a company install equipment that doesn't work (as promised) and then choose to abandon their customer?
This really gnawed at my whole being. On my flight home, I asked myself "How did this bright company find themselves in this awful situation?"
The answer was:
The problem is people are not asking the right questions before they buy
- because they're not in our business.
